The TY-E is an electric trials prototype that Yamaha unveiled at the 2018 Tokyo Motorcycle Show and entered in the 2018 FIM Trial-E Cup with rider Kenichi Kuroyama. It grew out of an in-house programme that let engineers spend part of their working time on their own ideas. Unusually for an electric bike it has a flywheel and a hydraulic wet multi-plate clutch, which helps with wheelies, jumps and traction. Yamaha had announced no plans to sell it.
